I did send this away to our MLA, but other than her personal appreciation of it, have heard nothing else from government. I am going to do a follow up post, however, on some of the emails I have received (all very supportive, to my surprise). Cheers Ladies, and all the best for a easy calving season! :) Terra Hatchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14109766542192023474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-812481771930314560.post-17100541392295294772016-02-15T20:58:20.081-08:002016-02-15T20:58:20.081-08:00Hey punk!! I do appreciate it.
I've been quite happily surprised at the amount of emails and comments that have come my way since the post. Perhaps we 'wilderness dwellers' are not quite as alone as I thought! :)
I am also very much an animal lover and the death of any single one is disturbing to me. I am the original 'softie' and much more likely to be supporting animals back to health (wild or domestic) then killing them. It is not lightly that I support reducing the wolf numbers, trust me. It's fully necessity speaking, and that's a fact. And, I'll fully admit that when we hear the wolves calling from here, we will all go outside to listen (and feel the hair unwillingly lift on the back of the neck as some primal survival instinct surfaces.) I honestly wonder if it isn't the sound of their unique call that makes them so attractive to humans. lol Please, do let me know if you are anywhere near the area, and I'd be delighted to invite you to the ranch! Thanks again for taking the time to write and share your view. I live in Northern Minnesota where the wolf issue has been a hotbed (and we have no cattle here except hobby farms.) I am a farmer's daughter and a wolf lover; I can see both sides, although I am not dependent on either cow or wolf for my livelihood and therein lies the difference. I love the photos of your cattle and how hard you work to raise them and the care you take with them--I love a good steak as much as I love hearing a wild wolf call. I thought your comment about the logging industry was spot on. Up here we could say mining AND logging and all the liberties they are granted. I just wanted to say that I have no answers but I love that you bring out these points that I am so interested in considering. I hate to see the death of any animal, but we kill them routinely for food and on the farm it was a part of life. However, had there been wolves and bear in North Dakota where I grew up I would also have been introduced to the problem of predators. I hope we give as much time to listening to ranchers as we do to environmentalists. Our world and space is getting so much smaller and these problems are only going to increase. We need voices of reason, like yours, to bring a balance. I hope you continue to speak out to help all of us understand. Thanks and I love BC and would love to visit your ranch one day. Good tidings from a friend in Minnesota who follows your blog.northcountrygalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04793399492472405002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-812481771930314560.post-90431276243085327482016-01-26T12:28:37.118-08:002016-01-26T12:28:37.118-08:00Thank you for your support Anthony.
